You love a good high-protein, delicious, healthy shake, right? Everyone does. But when you have one, make sure it’s actually healthy. Most shakes at your local smoothie shop are loaded with excess sugar and calories. So, save a little money (because places like Jamba Juice are pricey) and keep your shake clean by blending it yourself at home with this simple recipe:

  • 2 scoops vanilla whey protein powder
  • 1 cup blueberries
  • 1 cup strawberries
  • 1 tablespoon ground flaxseed
  • 16-24 ounces crushed ice
  • Smoothie Add-Ons:

    Chia Seeds

Put this superfood in your shake to boost omega-3 fats and fiber. Chia seeds have been shown to reduce blood pressure and help control blood-sugar levels.

Yes, it’s sugar, but it has potent anti-inflammatory properties, containing flavonoids, which help fight heart disease and cancer.

    Protein Sources

If you’re not keen on whey, sub in casein (a slower-digesting milk protein), egg, or soy or other vegetarian protein powder.
