My
astrological sign is Sagittarius.
I grew up in Toronto, Ontario, and I still live in Toronto.
In high school I played field hockey and soccer for the
school teams. I also played soccer at a competitive level for my town
What I love most about the WWE is I get to combine athleticism
and entertainment as part of my job. Also, I thrive on challenge and change.
What better challenge than performing live in front of thousands, in a new
city each week, in an event broadcast to millions of people all over the
world?
There was a rumour about how I got started in the wrestling
biz. I started fitness modeling after meeting Robert Kennedy and worked
for MuscleMag International. Because of that, I appeared on a talk show
called Off The Record, with a couple of wrestlers. Soon kids were making
stuff up about me on the Internet. “Trish Stratus, fitness model,
is coming out on WWE television soon.” A complete lie.
The truth is, I was backstage at a WWE Raw show in Toronto,
trying to get an interview for my wrestling radio show. A WWE talent scout
came up to me and told me to send in copies of the MuscleMag covers that
I had posed for. I did, but he didn’t call me right away, so I started
wrestling on my own in Toronto. Finally he called and flew me to their offices
for an interview. I went home with a contract offer. That was back in 1999.
I train like an actor: I think about motivation, about
the emotions driving the match, and the character development. I just came
out of a storyline where I was a “good girl” falling for a “bad
guy.” I just finished working improv at Second City in Toronto and
I’ve also worked on MadTV.
I’m preparing for the Royal Rumble (January 30, 2005)
by keeping my training pretty much the same. I’ve developed my 45-minute
all-inclusive routine (see page 40 for Trish’s complete cardio workout),
and it’s what I constantly do when I’m on the road.
My favorite exercises are running and sprinting. I love
getting the blood flowing throughout the body and feeling an overall pump
from head to toe.
The hardest thing I’ve trained for was my very first
photo shoot. I basically ate, trained and slept for six months. It was tough
because I knew it was my shot to make it in the fitness world. The photos
from the shoot turned into my first cover.
My biggest pet peeve is traffic, but another one is unmotivated
people. I hate people who expect things to get done for them. I’m
more than happy to pass these people by in life.
My favorite book is Memoirs of a Geisha. I read it just
before a tour in Japan. It was so amazing to learn about a culture and places
and then visit and understand the country and people a little better.
My favorite movies are the Rocky series.
My favorite CD is WWE Originals. WWE put out a compilation
of original songs performed by the Superstars, and they asked if I wanted
to participate. Having never sung before, I was a bit skeptical, but I approached
the project as an exciting challenge and had a blast doing it.
I’d love to meet comedic genius Jim Carrey, as a
fellow Canadian and self-proclaimed goofball.
If I could live anywhere, I’d still be in Toronto.
I vow to never leave. It’s my home and I love it here. I still bank
at the same bank where I opened my very first account. It’s also where
my friends and family are.
I would say wrestling used to be only a man’s sport,
but now I can proudly say it’s also a woman’s sport. We finally
have a creative team that has given the women juicy storylines and really
strong, developed characters. We have young girls coming up to us saying
we are their role models.
If I weren’t a WWE wrestler, I’d be a doctor
probably a pediatrician.
For breakfast I ate honey oatmeal with raisins and a handful
of trail mix.
My closet reflects my shopping habits: I shop on a need-to-wear
basis, meaning that when I need something for an event, I buy it. So my
style tends to be current but classic.
My perfect day is a day of rest where the only thing on
the agenda is nothing. That’s my ideal day because I don’t get
many of them.
Keep an eye out for me on Trishstratus.com; I’m focusing
more on my training sections now. I also have the Trish Stratus: Stratusfaction
Guaranteed! DVD, which came out last year. It shows me growing up, doing
the fitness stuff and my WWE career. I helped produce it, which was neat.
Who knows, maybe I’ll work on Volume II. |
