I grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota where I still reside.
In high school I played volleyball for one year. I sat on the bench quite a bit unless they needed me to serve the ball. I really had a powerful serve!
What I love most about the fitness industry is traveling and meeting people not only from the U.S. but around the world. Fitness is a language itself and I have so many friends because of it.
My favorite exercises are walking lunges and deadlifts because they force you to exert so much energy. When I complete a good leg routine I feel like I’ve done cardio as well.
My best feature is my laugh. It’s pretty boisterous and slightly obnoxious. Many people can’t believe such a loud noise can come from my frame.
The question I'm most asked still to this day is what ethnicity are you? My mother is Caucasian and my father is African-American.
I'd love to work out with Jay Cutler. I want to see what type of workout he would put me through and if I would be able to walk the next day!
The hardest event I’ve had to train for was my first national fitness competition. I had only one regional competition under my belt so I hired a trainer and choreographer to assist me. It was a great investment as I finished 7th out of 100 competitors even with no gymnastics experience.
My worst injury was spraining my ankle two weeks before Nationals. I still competed and finished 7th. To this day, I still get sore when I wear heels.
One of my biggest pet peeves is people who sweat the small stuff. Life is a gift! If you have your health, family and friends you’re better off than most.
My favorite book is Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Album. I enjoyed the story of how a student reconnects with his terminally ill teacher who teaches from him the importance of one’s purpose in life.
My favorite movie is Planes, Trains and Automobiles. I laugh every time I watch my personal DVD.
My favorite CD is The Emancipation of Mimi by Mariah Carey. I wish I could sing like her for one minute. Thank goodness I inherited dancing genes.
I would love to meet Brett Favre of the Green Bay Packers. Football is my favorite sport and he is the best quarterback to date.
If I could live anywhere, I would live exactly where I live now: Minneapolis!
At the gym I wear layers because I’m always cold.
My role model is my father who is the most positive person I know. He is never down and when he sees you, it’s as though he has not seen you in years.
For breakfast I ate oatmeal with a Strawberry shake.
In my fridge, I have lots of eggs and turkey bacon.
My sense of style is color coordinated and funky!
Keep an eye out for me on The Fitness Minute, dates and time TBD.
I never leave home without my workout bag and water bottle!
I’m a board member for the “Hope Chest for Breast Cancer Foundation” which raises money for locally under-insured women. |
