With a little supermarket savvy and some at-home strategies, you can save big bucks on your grocery bill.

Thrifty Shopper

Grow Your Own: Cross herbs off your shopping list. Grow your own small windowsill herb garden for added flavor at a fraction of the cost.

Buy in Bulk: Whether it’s frozen chicken breasts or a gallon of olive oil, you’ll save money by buying your kitchen essentials in bulk.

Buy Seasonal: Don’t go looking for pomegranates in New Hampshire in February. If you can find them at all, they’ll likely cost way more than your weekly budget allows.

Cut Out Processing: Each extra step a major food conglomerate has to take to make your food adds dollars to the bottom line. This is why cereal costs more than just about anything else in the market. Whole grains like oatmeal are much cheaper…and better for you.

Buck the Bottle: Make a one-time investment in a water filter and stop buying expensive bottled water. Bonus: You’ll also save the environment.
