We are so pumped to launch Oxygen’s newest program, Built in 60 — created by yours truly and my holistic nutritionist husband, Andrew. How did we come up with that name? We firmly believe that you’re in charge of building your life and your body, from the ground up. And we know from firsthand experience that what you put into it, you get back out of it. Yes, hard work and consistency really do pay off.
Syncing Up Training and Nutrition
When we designed this program, our goal was to create a clean slate for optimal results — the sort of “clearing out” required to pour a foundation, one might say. That’s why the training is focused on muscle-building routines with intervals and circuit training mixed in to burn fat. The good news is that “bulking season” is no longer needed with this streamlined approach.
The nutrition portion of the plan supports lean muscle building, optimizes the metabolism, and allows for the body to burn excess fat with a stable and sustainable breakdown for results you can actually maintain. The problem we see with a lot of really effective nutrition programs is the lack of sustainability — so we’re thinking long term here!
And since we designed the program from a holistic viewpoint, we’ve synced up the nutrition and training to be one cohesive plan: As the training routines increase in difficulty, the nutrition shifts to optimize the body’s capacity to build muscle and burn maximum amounts of fat.
The Down-Low on Training
So what will these workouts look like? The Built in 60 training contains simple routines that sneak up on you — I swear, you’ll be left wondering what the heck just happened. You don’t need to do exercises you’ve never heard of to see results, so I created 60 days of progressive routines that focus on only the most effective moves.
The result is serious muscle and major fat burning all while requiring minimal equipment — you’ll just need a few dumbbells, a flat surface, and a pull-up bar or resistance bands for pulldowns. Anyone can complete this routine (we offer modifications and advancements throughout) with all my tips and tricks for every move.
More specifically, the workouts pair muscle-group-specific training with straight sets, supersets and drop sets, intervals and full-body circuits weekly — these include Tabatas, AMRAPs (as many rounds as possible) and EMOMs (every minute on the minute). This provides a wide range of routines to target agility, balance, endurance and strength with a gradually progressing schedule that constantly challenges the body and builds muscle. And in case you’re wondering, yes, these are the same moves I use to stay lean and defined all year long.
The Down-Low on Nutrition
Andrew created a two-phase approach to the nutrition portion of the Built in 60 program. You can find all the details in his recipe blog, but here’s the gist:
- Phase 1: We’ll begin by eliminating common foods that cause inflammation, which can contribute to a wide array of diseases. This break will allow your organs time to rest and heal — and it only lasts 30 days.
- Phase 2: Now, we’re going to add some foods back in and start doing intermittent fasting. You can read more about Andrew’s approach to intermittent fasting and time-restricted eating here. You’ll also learn how Andrew and I cook at home, use herbs for flavor and as preventative medicine, and our meal-prep tricks and tips.
Essentially, the holistic nutrition protocols we’ve included are designed to burn fat, build muscle and rid the body of toxins.
