If everything is bigger in Texas, then Dallas was the perfect location to host one of the most anticipated and competitive IFBB Figure and Bikini shows of the season – the 2011 Europa Super Show – this past August. It was a weekend full of big competitors, big surprises and big wins. With the Olympia right around the corner, there was more than just a title on the line. For the ladies looking to earn a coveted spot in Las Vegas, this was their final shot at qualifying.
In the Figure division, competition between the 25 conditioned physiques was fierce. But Ava Cowan, considered the favorite going in and took first during prejudging, took top honors and her first IFBB Pro win. Deena Walsh secured a somewhat less anticipated spot in the top three, turning out in top form to snag second place and a trip to the Olympia. And 50-year-old Ella Horton, looking not a day older than her 20- and 30-something counterparts, took a well-deserved third place.
On the Bikini stage, reigning Olympia champ, Sonia Gonzales, had her eyes on the prize, but wound up settling for third place behind first-place finisher Natalie Pennington and runner-up Jessica Jessie. Like Ava, this was Natalie’s first IFBB Pro win. Since all three ladies had already secured spots in the 2011 Olympia, the chance to compete went to Dianna Dahlgren in fourth place.
