Is exercise the fountain of youth? Could be! A new study published in the Journal of Applied Physiology found that elderly people who were athletes in their youth and who still competed as masters athletes had healthier muscles on a cellular level when compared to non-athletes of the same age. The athletes’ legs were 25 percent stronger and contained about 14 percent more muscle mass and one-third more total motor units in their legs than the non-athletes.
