For years, experts have been recommending getting in 10,000 steps per day in order to lose weight and improve your health and reduce metabolic conditions. However, it appears that this number alone is not enough to prevent weight gain.
Researchers at Brigham Young University divided 120 freshmen into three groups and had them walk 10,000, 12,500 or 15,000 steps per day, six days a week for 24 weeks. While their sedentary time decreased by as much as 77 minutes, in the end, it did not matter how much these kids walked; they still gained an average of about 3.5 pounds. To prevent your “freshman 15” from creeping in, you have to pair clean eating with an active lifestyle.
