The science community is learning what we gym-goers already knew: whey protein can help you achieve a lean physique.

Whey protein, either combined with resistance exercise or as part of a weight-loss or -maintenance diet, may deliver body composition benefits, suggests a new scientific review published in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition. Specifically, after analyzing 14 studies with a total 626 participants, researchers found that when whey protein:

  • was used to replace calories in weight loss programs participants lost an average of 9.2 pounds more than the control groups; and
  • was paired with strength training, participants increased their lean body mass by an average of 4.9 pounds.

Isn’t it nice when science confirms what we have known all along?
